Our climate
Earth´s climate is a highly variable system determined by the complexity of numerous interacting factors. The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon of Earth´s climate being under anthropogenic influence since the beginning of industrialisation.

International climate policy
The Conference for the Environment and Development of the United Nations in Rio de Janeiro (in 1992), during which the Framework Convention on Climate Change was signed by 154 countries, and the third Conference of the Parties (COP 3) in Kyoto (in 1997), during which the Kyoto Protocol was passed, are deemed as forming the milestones of international climate policy.

The Kyoto Protocol
International climate policy entered a new era with signing of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997. The Protocol is seen as key instrument in restraining climate change due to its binding reduction targets for the developed countries.
