Laws and Directives
The Austrian JI/CDM Programme is regulated under the Austrian Umweltförderungsgesetz (UFG - Environmental Support Act;, BGBl. 185/1993 and last amended by BGBl. I 52/2009) first published on 21 August 2003.

Details of the Programme are regulated in the Guideline for the Austrian JI/CDM Programme. (last amended on 23 October 2007).

Large Hydro Power Projects of a capacity of more than 20 MW have to comply with the World Commission on Dams Criteria and Guidelines according to the Austrian JI/CDM Guideline. Support is given by the WCD Guideline and the WCD Checklist in the download box.

Memoranda of Understanding (MoU)
These framework contracts may facilitate the basis for JI/CDM projects and give potential investors a certainty in principle that the respective host country will assent to transferring emission reduction credits generated by accordant projects to the investor country.

Till February 2009, MoUs have been concluded with the following countries:

To facilitate the handling of specific JI or CDM projects, the Austrian Federal Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management has concluded so-called "Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)" with various countries.
